Reflections on Independence Day
By HAJI FARUK KIRUNDA
Let me use this opportunity to welcome back the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E Gen. (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, his visiting counterpart from Central African Republic (C.A.R). H.E Faustin-Archange Touadéra, other leaders and all Ugandans from celebrating the 62nd Independence Day in Busia district. Appreciation goes to the National Organising Committee (N.O.C)…
Celebrating independence is a time to reflect on the struggles and triumphs that have shaped our nation. It is a time to honor those who fought for freedom and to recommit ourselves to upholding the values of democracy and independence. As we gather to celebrate this historic day, let us remember the sacrifices that were made and the journey that still lies ahead.
However, amidst the celebrations, there are challenges that threaten our democracy, liberation, and independence. Cowardly incumbents who seek to undermine the will of the people and cling to power through deceit and manipulation pose a serious threat to our nation’s progress. It is imperative that we remain vigilant and united in the face of such threats, and always uphold the principles of justice, equality, and freedom that our forefathers fought for.
As we welcome back our leaders and celebrate our independence, let us also reflect on the importance of preserving our hard-earned freedoms and ensuring that democracy and liberation are not compromised. Let us stand together in unity and solidarity, and continue to work towards a brighter future for all Ugandans.
How will this affect me?
This celebration of independence serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding our freedoms and democracy. It is a call to action for all citizens to remain vigilant and engaged in upholding the values that make our nation strong. As individuals, we must actively participate in the democratic process and hold our leaders accountable for their actions. By staying informed and involved, we can ensure that our rights and freedoms are protected and preserved for future generations.
How will this affect the world?
The challenges facing Uganda in terms of threats to democracy and independence are not unique to our nation. Around the world, there are similar struggles where leaders attempt to undermine the will of the people and cling to power at all costs. By standing up against such injustices and upholding the values of democracy, Uganda sets an example for other nations facing similar challenges. Our commitment to justice, equality, and freedom inspires others to fight for their rights and create a more just and equitable world for all.
Conclusion
As we celebrate our independence and welcome back our leaders, let us remember the importance of upholding the values of democracy, liberation, and independence. Let us stand together in unity and solidarity, and continue to work towards a brighter future for all Ugandans. By staying vigilant and engaged, we can safeguard our freedoms and ensure that the sacrifices of our forefathers are honored and respected.
