International trade continued to flourish despite the COVID-19 pandemic

Merchandise exports grew by 4.7%, increasing from US$ 4.1 billion in 2019 to US$ 4.3 billion in 2020. Agricultural export values also saw a significant increase, showcasing the resilience of the Ugandan economy during these challenging times. Despite the ongoing challenge of poverty in many households, the overall economic outlook of the country is promising.

Uganda has been able to weather the storm of the pandemic and maintain stable economic growth, thanks to the government’s strategic policies and initiatives. The investment in key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and infrastructure has paid off, leading to increased export opportunities and job creation.

However, the challenge of poverty remains prevalent in many households across the country. Despite the overall economic growth, inequality and lack of access to basic services continue to hinder the full potential of Uganda’s economy. Addressing these issues will be crucial in ensuring sustainable and inclusive growth for all Ugandans.
