An outpouring of community support continues to flow in for a Port Jefferson family whose home was destroyed and a cherished cat killed in a devastating blaze early Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out at around 3:30 a.m. at the High Street home, drawing around 70 firefighters from seven area departments. Due to its unique architecture, the fire had to be attacked by two companies of personnel, according to Port Jefferson fire Chief Anthony Barton.
Barton and his personnel arrived about four minutes after the alarm was sounded, and by that time, he says “a good portion of the whole front of the house was engulfed.” The two connected buildings that made up the home were both on fire, presenting a challenging situation for firefighters.
