Empowering Farmers: How MIN-RWAMIRAMA and NAGRC are Working Together to Alleviate Poverty through Dairy Breeding

The National Animal Genetics Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) has released one hundred assorted superior dairy breeding bulls to farmers who are members of dairy cooperatives identified across the country. This is a routine program of the Centre which is conducted at all its fifteen Animal Genetic Resources Centres located in different regions of Uganda. The aim of this program is to improve the genetics of dairy cattle in the country, ultimately leading to higher milk production and better quality dairy products.

Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Hon. Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, emphasized the importance of this initiative in a recent press conference. He stated that NAGRC&DB plays a crucial role in supporting farmers and helping them enhance their livelihoods. By providing access to superior breeding bulls, the Centre is enabling farmers to improve their dairy cattle stock and increase their income through higher milk yields.

Additionally, Minister of State for Animal Industry, Hon. Bright Rwamirama, highlighted the significance of these efforts in the fight against poverty. He stated that NAGRC&DB’s programs are instrumental in empowering farmers and lifting them out of poverty. By equipping farmers with the tools and resources they need to succeed in dairy farming, the Centre is playing a key role in poverty alleviation.
